How has Lockdown had an Impact on Richard‘s Training?

Lockdown has brought its fair share of twists and turns into the events industry, and bodybuilding has been no exception.

Training and dieting have still been moving full-steam ahead with our competitors, even if it has meant adapting to a different environment and staying motivated in a different way.

Like all of us, Richard has adapted to spending the majority of the past year at home, but this has proven to be no obstacle when it comes to training and staying in shape.

Training in 2020

During Lockdown, Richard and his partner have purchased a home gym to continue the extent of their training, from home.

With over 30 different types of machines and equipment, Richard and his partner have added their own kit to ensure its compatible with their regimes, so he can work on getting fit and ready for his next competition.

Thankfully, Richard’s home gym set-up has done nothing but encouraged his motivation to train even more, despite the socialising he’s used to and missing at his regular gym.

Fortunately, motivation has never been an issue for Richard as he’s always been extremely dedicated and goal-driven towards his sport.

He’s currently training 3-on, 1-off depending on how his body is feeling on the day and has learnt to take the odd rest day every now and then when necessary.

His diet is constantly changing, depending on his goal and what he’s trying to achieve in terms of his body build. At the moment, Richard is working with Kuba Cielen; IFBB pro bodybuilder and the owner of Ultra Flex Rotheram – one of the biggest gyms in the UK. In terms of diet, he is working with Kuba to actively build up his body tissue.

Richard has recently come off of his recomp diet, to reduce the levels of fat and regenerate his muscle instead.

Competing in the Future

Richard is optimistic about competing again towards the end of 2021, providing the events industry starts back up again.

Missing out on shows hasn’t been too much of an issue for Richard as he’d recently been away with injuries. The absence of shows has only meant he can focus more on his training and efforts to build his body back-up for a hopeful end to 2021.
